Google Ads:

* Google announced on Sept 01, 2021 that on Feb 01, 2022 some, most, all Search Term data prior to Sept 01, 2020 will be deleted if the data does not meet Google’s new privacy rules.

* Google added ‘impressions with no clicks’ data back to Search Terms report on Sept 01, 2021 as a result of the growing amount of ‘no click searches’.

* Google Ads API changes on April 22, 2022. The old API (aka Adwords API) will be removed. This affects folks using the API directly or who use AWQL (AdWords Query Language). AWQL scripts will need to be changed to use GAQL (Google Ads Query Language).

* Google Ads will sunset ETA (Expanded Text Ads) on June 30, 2022 – starting in July you will no longer be able to create or modify ETAs. The ETA’s will still be shown but many folks expect that to be eliminated in the future. Google states all accounts must have at least one RSA ad in every ad group by June 30, 2022. They don’t say what happens if you don’t.

Now for Google Analytics news:

* GA4 is likely to go into production in 2023 or 2024 (I would bet a wooden nickel on 2024) and the rumor is when the switch is made there will be a short window to grab any historical UA data.

* GA4 is limiting data retention to 2 months (default) to 14 months. You should verify all clients are set for 14 months. My issue with this change is ‘year over year’ comparisons are toast unless the data is exported and saved or you use Big Query.

* Google has announced that Big Query is now free to use up to certain storage limits (if you exceed those you get to pay for the extra storage).
